About

The concept behind Twelve Twelves is to mix and blend twelve complementary 12” vinyl records into a unique compilation, personal to the selector’s record collection. It’s not about the mixing, it’s about the selection, and each set will form a sort of digital mixtape for the modern age.

Originally this was a personal mission, conceived as a way to keep my vinyl alive and archive the best music in my collection. Now I am excited to invite others to join in.

I am an architect, DJ and record collector living in North London. I have been collecting vinyl for 25 years, initially focused on hip hop, then branching into soul, funk, jazz, reggae, broken beat, jungle, house and African music. I used to DJ regularly at University and then, with my good friend Will, ran a night in London throughout the “noughties” called Pick N Mix. Around this time, I put out hip hop mixtapes (as DJ Element) sold through Mr Bongo, Deal Real and other long-gone record shops. Since 2012 I have been recording the Twelve Twelves series and uploading to Mixcloud and now I’m super happy to bring this all together into one place, 1212sradio.co.uk.

Currently I host two internet radio shows – The Twelve Twelves Show on Islington Radio and Not To Scale on Voices Radio in King’s Cross. I’ll post links to these under the “Radio” section of this website.

As a practicing architect, I am interested in exploring links between music and architecture and in 2019 I did a Ted X talk on this subject. I am hoping that my Not To Scale radio show might be an opportunity to further explore these links and perhaps even provide a soundtrack to our studio-based work lives.
